FORMATTING A LISTING goes something like: the times the event starts and ends; a short description of the event; its location, including a complete address, the nearest T stop and description of parking conditions; any restrictions, such as whether an event is formal, legally limited to certain age groups, or capable of serving only a small number of people; the cost to attend or suggested donation; and a phone number and/or Internet address for further information.
EVENT INFORMATION CAN BE: e-mailed to events@cambridgeday.com; faxed to (617) 547-1312; or mailed to Cambridge Day at 1 Orchard St No. 1, Cambridge 02140-1321. If information is sent via e-mail, the text should be pasted into the e-mail, not sent as an attachment. Pictures sent via e-mail should be sent in the JPG format, with at least 200 dots per inch, and, while close-up pictures of a single person may be sent at about two inches across, anything else should be at least five inches across.
Cambridge Day listings are not just for evenings when the prototypical city student is seeking distraction from a dissertation. A full range should be represented: yard sales; trips for senior meetings; reading programs for kids; support groups; symposia; Chautauquas, and so on. The listings are free and open to all (so long as the event takes place in or concerns Cambridge, of course) following these guidelines:
A business may list events that add to its standard operation and educates, entertains, or both. Example: A restaurant is not allowed to list every day that it is serving food; it is allowed to list a nightly piano bar, weekly jazz brunch, monthly wine tasting, quarterly cooking class or annual party. The exception is a business that is in the business of entertaining, such as a nightclub or theater, which can list all of its events.
Private citizens and nonprofit groups, organizations and institutions may list as many events as they like - a provision subject to change and editorial discretion.
All listings are subject to approval and editing by Cambridge Day, if only to put them in the desired format.
